All widely known guides to the butterflies of Europe (Higgins & Riley, Tolman, Chinery, etc.) actually encompass only WEST EUROPE. This area includes European part of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, north-eastern Azerbaijan, north-western Kazakhstan. The eastern border of Europe runs along Ural mountain range, Ural river and Main Caucasus mountain range. |
It contains information on 293 butterfly species occurring in East Europe. More than 1700 photographs of the collection specimens (males and females, upper and under sides), and 48 photographs taken in nature. Species entries contain important information on general distribution, distribution in Eastern Europe, phenology, habitat and larval host-plants. In numerous cases, the comments on the systematic position of certain taxa are given. 293 distribution maps for all East-European butterfly species are given for the first time.
